CAFFE DANTE to CLOSE ???

MY BELOVED CAFFE DANTE to CLOSE
Yes I’m afraid it’s most likely true, my beloved Caffe Dante to close this month (February 2015) after 100 years in business in New York’s Greenwich Village. It’s rumored that Mario Flotta the long time owner of Caffe Dante will be selling the caffe to a Australian Corporation and it was reported on 1010 WINS Radio News this morning that Dante will be shuttering its doors in 10 days time. This is very sad, especially for me and longtime regulars who have been going to Caffe Dante for 10, 20, 30, and even 40 years for New York’s most authentic Espresso and cups of Cappuccino. I myself have been going there since the Summer of 1985 when I came back from my first trip wonderful trip of many to my ancestral homeland of Italy .. As i’ve been going to Caffe Dante almost evry single day siance 85, I’ve become good friends with the Flotta Family over the years especially Mario Sr. who is almost like a second father to me.
This is such sad news, and all I can say is something I know that most do not, is that Mario bought a building around the corner on Bleecker Street for just such a situation. That being that the landlord would one day raise his rent beyond reason (the Landlord did in 2013), and Mario would just pack up his caffe and move it around the corner. Mario is Caffe Dante, his loves the place like one of his own children, and I know this is the reason he bought the building on Bleedker. Mario told me himself what he would do, and he always wanted the Caffe to continue and for there to be a place for Caffe Dante for his sons, Mario Jr., Anthony, and Peter.
I hope everything all works out, I love Caffe Dante more than I can ever express, it’s without question my second home, and a Greenwich Village without this wonderful Caffe would be that much less of the Greenwich Village that we residients, visitors and tourist from around the country and around the World know.

Once Upon a Tart Re-Opens in Soho

GREAT NEWS in SOHO
ONCE UPON a TART

Sulivan Street

Soho

NEW YORK , NY

Well it’s been a RollerCoaster Ride the past six months or so for Jerome Audereau
and his bloved Soho establishment Once Upon a Tart .. Because of a high-rent increase and other factors, The Tart as it’s know to its many loyal followers and fans found itself in a bit of a finacncial strain. Jerome said the numbers didn’t add up and unless he got a partner the Tart would have to close. Matt Amramchyk the owner of sucessful Navy Restaurant next door was interested in parntering with Audureu and The Tart but this wishful marriage was squashed by The Soho Alliance who to put it bluntly hated Navy and its owner and did not want them to be a partner at The Tart as they said if the partnership of Navy and Once Upon a Tart was approved with a Approval of a State Liquor Liscense, the people behind NAVY would control half the block. Sweeney and the people at Soho Alliance all love Jerome and Once Upon a Tart, but the feelings are just the opposite when it comes to Navy and the people behind. The neighborhood people have a beef with Navy and its owner Matt Abramcyk, as Sweeney and those opposing Navy say that they are bad nieghbors, playing loud music and making a ruckass outside lat into the night.

So as it turns out, Once Upon a Tart shuttered its doors in August of 2014 to overwhelming sadness of its local cutomers  .. Mr. Audureu has since gained a partner and has re-opened the beloved Once Upon a Tart as of this day, Wedesday November 26, 2014 ..  Needless to say, we local customers are quite excited and happy at the re-opening of our beloved Tatrt.

Bravo Jerome, Good Luck, and Welcome Back,

CORNER BISTRO NEW YORK BURGERS

CORNER BISTRO

Happy to see Corner Bistro’s Burger can still make it to # 1 Best of New York list these days. I’ve been eating Cheeseburgers there since 1984. Yes 26 Years of Bistro Burgers. Back then, the Burger at the Corner Bistro was for Year-After-Year thee perennial favorite, # 1, Top, Best Burger in New York, rated by the Top and most Powerful food Authorities of the day, New York Magazine, The NY Times, Cue Magazine, The Post, The Village Voice, GQ, Bob Lape on 7’s Eyewitness News, The Daily News, so on and so forth. Nine out of ten people, newspapers, and news agency’s, The Bistro Burger was always “Tops,” # 1. It no longer is. And it was tops for some 30 years. Quite a run. Sadly the quality of the Burger has gone down a bit, and there are numerous chemistry better, tastier Burgers in town. Shake Shack get my Vote for the Top, New York’s best Burger, with Bills Bar and Burger and Peter Luger not far behind. But the Shake Shack Burger has all the proper elements that come together and make for perfect chemistry of, dear I say, “The Perfect Burger.” Well if not the perfect Burger, New York’s Best, or at least amongst the Best, everyone has their opinion. Some not as qualified as others. As I’ve been eating the East Coast’s Best Burgers since childhood, and being a former Chef Culinary Professional, I have greater qualifications than most.

The Shake Shack Burgers elements that make it so good, are: Top Quality Beef, Just the right size and thickness, not too thin nor too thick, which unfortunately many think makes a burger is better, the thicker it is. Not so. A 6 oz., 3/4″ Burger is Best and it has to be cooked on a Flat-Top Grill cooking in its own fat to qualify amongst the best. Cooking on a grated grill, just won’t do. You’ll often get terribly overcooked hard spots, losing all important beef fat for the burger to cook in. You’ll need a good hamburger bun, toasted preferred, not too fancy, and a major No-No is the use of an English Muffin. Though i Love them for breakfast, English Muffins are a terrible choice, pairing to a Burger. the Burger has to be properly cooked
And one of thee most important rules to a great Burger, it can’t cost more than $6.50, and about $4.50 is even better. The Shake Shake burger meets all these requirements, even exceeding them.
Back to the Bistro Burger. For nostalgias sake and Price to value ratio, combined with the great old New York Bar ambiance, The Bistro Burger always makes it on my Top 10 List. As the Post states, to be able to get a great burger for just $6.50 with Beers at $2.75 in one of New York’s few remaining Bohemian Bars, and in Greenwich Village? A combination that just can’t be beat.
