TUPUNGATO, ARGENTINA

One of the most memorable restaurants I’ve ever been to. This is a famous restaurant in the Tupungato wine region of Argentina is absolutely amazing. Had a wonderful lunch here with my cousin Joe and friend Diego Montanaldo. We ate, of course the restaurants famous namesake Jamon (Prosciutto) and one of the best Lasagna I’ve had in my life. Even better than in Italy. “Seriously.” We drank local Malbec, ate the delicious Jamon and Lasagna, and had one of the best meals of my life.

I introduced myself to the owner, and told him how much I loved his place, and he was kind enough to bring me into the Jamon Room, where he had a couple hundred hams (Jamon) curing. So nice. A day I shall always remember.

We toured the Winery – Wine Cellar, then checked into our rooms. Salentein is a very impressive operation. They make both Premium and lower-priced everyday wines. The estate is massive, and besides the vineyards and winery, they have a restaurant and wonderful resort where you can stay.
Our friend Diego set up the whole itinerary for this trip, which included an amazing 2 days in Buenos Aires, before we flew down to Mendoza. We toured Mendoza and several wineries, and did the same in Tupungato, and the Uco Valley, including a lovely stay at Salentein. Yes, we toured the facilities, had a wine tasting with the winemaker, we stayed overnight, had a lovely dinner and beautiful breakfast the next day, where the set a table outside for us, overlooking the whole estate, from the summit of the property. Breakfast was great. We left and made our way to Clos di Siete, 7 prpoerties – making their own individual wines, and making one “Super Argentinian” called Clos di Siete.
